A Family’s Loss – episode 3
December 5, 2007 – 1:58 amWe had a week to wait until our trip to Davao Oriental for my uncle’s burial. I was observing my dad the whole time since I’m home most of the time doing my work.
On the upcoming Friday, we were scheduled to go on a road trip together with my bothers’ families. On Wednesday before that, my dad availed his leave from work. I went on thinking how to lighten things ups for him and mom who seemed stressed as well with all the work she’s doing and care she’s giving for the family.
My dad is not really the “party dad”. He’s even the opposite I guess, never the one who enjoys an online casino or a party with friends. If there will be a “not party dad”, he will be that. Hehe. He likes to be with greens and calm sceneries. Growing up in a silent rural area, he would naturally be. He generally has a calm demeanor.
I decided to bring them to this park about 20 minutes away from the house (in taxi). The place has clubs and music and noise at night but in the early afternoon, you can enjoy the calm garden in the area. When I told him that they sell seedlings in that place, he readily agreed to come. He is an agriculturist by the way.
When we reached the place, we found a spot, a bench under a huge tree with the seedlings for sale on our back. It was great, peaceful and calm. I went buying several things to eat for the time passing. I also bought two ‘halo-halo” servings to enjoy the time. I believe they both enjoyed the moment as much as I did. I always had that knack for calm gardens and greens too, especially when I get stressed.
After a few hours, my dad decided to go home. It was getting dark too so my mum and I went to a mall nearby to buy a few things before going our own appointments.
That decision to take them out for a while was never wrong. It was great actually and with a little expense (200 or so), I was able to spend quality time with my parents. A great treat for them with what they are currently going through…to be continued
